Tatachilla claims silver at state final

Tatachilla’s Year 7/8 netball team has brought home the silver medal in the Division 1 School Sport SA state netball final.

The college’s Year 5/6 girls’ team is also thrilled to have secured third place in the same state finals in the medium schools category.

On Tuesday 26 August, the Year 7/8 team proudly represented Tatachilla at Netball SA Stadium in a day of fierce competition marked by skill, determination and sportsmanship. The team’s exceptional performances in the minor round – including wins over Tenison Woods College (24–22) and Sacred Heart (28–26) – earned them a place in the grand final against Immanuel College.

Despite a hard-fought match, the team fell just short, finishing as runner-up state champions and taking home the silver medal. Their Division 1 success is especially impressive considering that netball at Tatachilla is driven by student passion and supported through the college’s Advanced Athlete Development Program, rather than a weekly interschool competition.

This outstanding result highlights the strength of the college’s coaching, the depth of student talent and the culture of teamwork and dedication within the sports community at Tatachilla.

Head Coach Tracy McAvaney, supported by Assistant Coaches Emily Hart and Kaysha Dellow from the college’s Advanced Athlete Development Program, praised the players for their growth and composure.

“The girls have displayed incredible determination and a passion for the game throughout the season,” McAvaney said. “To finish as Division 1 silver medallists is an extraordinary result for our college.”

Tatachilla’s Advanced Athlete Development Program also played a pivotal role in the team’s success, providing opportunities for students to develop their coaching skills, mentor younger players and share their love of sport with the next generation.

Adding to the celebrations, Tatachilla’s Year 5/6 girls’ netball team competed in the state finals on Monday 25 August, also at Netball SA. Facing tough competition from Trinity College, Fulham North, and Stella Maris, the team displayed grit and determination to finish third overall.

Coach Emma Brokenshire congratulated the players and student assistant coaches on their efforts: “Our girls played with heart and represented Tatachilla with pride, both on and off the court. To reach this stage of the competition and finish third is an achievement they should be very proud of.”

Tatachilla Lutheran College is proud of both teams and their coaches for exemplifying the college’s values of teamwork, perseverance and community spirit at the highest level of school netball competition in South Australia.
