Tatachilla Lutheran College’s high-performing Year 12 chemistry students have taken out a Gold and two Silver awards at the 2026 Royal Australian Chemical Institute’s Titration Competition.

The outstanding young scientists excelled in the school’s phase of the competition, qualifying for the state final at Adelaide University on 29 August. Our students seized the chance to work in a university laboratory where they went head-to-head with other schools and put their titration skills to the test.

Our students’ skills, experience and confidence shone through against some tough competition, with Kearni taking out a Gold Award and Tom and Nirike winning Silver. We are so proud of our winners and our chemistry cohort for their efforts, ambition and growth this year. Our chemistry students are exemplary ambassadors for our college community.

This year is the second year in a row that our senior chemistry students have made it through to the final, and we’re looking forward to competing again in 2027. Onwards and upwards!

This year’s Book Week celebrations brought together students, staff and special guests to share in the creativity, imagination and joy that great stories inspire.

With the theme Symphony of Stories, our annual dress-up parade was a highlight of the week, with students embracing characters from much-loved books. Year 12 students joined the celebrations, helping to lead our enthusiastic junior years students across the stage at our R-12 Assembly.

The Book Week Assembly also featured a special reading of Wombat Stew by Sue Matena, a former junior years Performing Arts teacher who spent 17 years at the college. Our talented student musicians provided a live musical accompaniment, creating a memorable performance for our community.

Meanwhile, the annual Bake-a-Book competition reached a new milestone, with a record 133 entries transforming favourite stories into imaginative edible creations. Congratulations to all students who took part.

Thank you to our library staff and House Coordinators for bringing another successful Book Week to life and for fostering a love of reading throughout our college community.

Yesterday, we celebrated the wonderful fathers and father-figures in our lives with our annual Father’s Day breakfast and chapel service.

Once again, the popular breakfast was a sell-out event. The special gathering provided families with an opportunity to spend time together at school with their children, enjoying croissants, coffee and cake before gathering for a special chapel service.

Thank you to all our families who joined us and helped make the morning such a warm and memorable occasion.

More than 300 of Tatachilla Lutheran College’s disco dancers hit the dance floor to showcase their moves at the 2026 Junior Years Disco on Friday 28 August. 

Our dedicated junior years team created a photo booth, complete with dress-up costumes so our students could change up their look on the night. Many of the young revellers jumped at the chance to accessorise their outfit with big glasses, hats and scarves. 

Students snacked on popcorn and sipped juice to keep their energy levels up while parents relaxed and chatted as they enjoyed the delicious food truck dinner options outside.

The annual event is a wonderful opportunity for the college community to connect, have fun and raise funds along the way. 

Both our Year 9/10 and open girls basketball teams recently delivered inspiring performances to be proud of.

Hats off to our Year 9 /10 girls basketball team who played back-to-back games, facing some tough opposition from Encounter Lutheran College, Eastern Fleurieu School and Unity College. 

We were heartened to see teammates step up when illness meant some players had to bow out. Although the games didn’t go their way, our girls persisted, competed with some fantastic play and continue to support one another throughout every game until the final whistle. 

We’d also like to commend our open girls’ basketball team on their Round 2 performance. After two impressive victories against Victor Harbor and St Peter’s Girls School, our team faced a tough third game against Glenunga High School. The girls played some excellent shots, fighting hard before losing to Glenunga’s impressive team and missing out on a place in this year’s state finals.

It was inspiring to see the girls in our 9/10 and open basketball teams living our college values of courage, growth, kinship and ambition. Well done girls!
