Junior School Device Selection

Students in Years 1 to 6 at the Junior School have two device options:

  • Option 1: An iPad recommended by the College supplied through our BYOD partner, JB Hi-Fi.
  • Option 2: An iPad you own, or purchase through an alternative supplier sourced by you.


Minimum requirements


  • Reception devices are supplied by the College.


  • Current-generation iPad (iPad Mini and iPad Pro are not suitable)
  • 9.7” screen only (7.9” mini or 12.9” pro screens are not suitable)
  • Minimum of 32GB storage
  • Suitable rubberised/armoured protective case


  • Current-generation iPad or iPad Pro (iPad Mini is not suitable)
  • 9.7” or 10.5” screens only (7.9” mini or 12.9” pro screens are not suitable)
  • Minimum of 128GB storage (greater storage is needed to meet curriculum requirements in Years 4 upwards)
  • Suitable rubberised/armoured protective case

Please pay particular attention to the storage space required for different year levels. The College will not support iPad devices with a screen size other than 9.7" or 10.5”. Larger screens are too prone to damage and smaller screens are not conducive to learning.


Purchasing a device

We recommend purchasing your device through the College's BYOD portal, however you are free to purchase a device from wherever you choose provided it meets the requirements set out above.

When ordering through the BYOD portal, devices must be ordered by Friday 9 November, 2018 to ensure readiness for pickup prior to Christmas. Orders made by Friday 21 December, 2018 will be ready for pickup prior to the start of the 2019 school year. Orders made after Friday 21 December may not arrive in time for the start of the 2019 school year.

Tatachilla selects a BYOD partner annually to provide families with the best possible pricing on devices pre-selected and approved by the ICT Services team. All devices available on the BYOD portal meet the minimum requirements for learning at the College, and after ordering will be available for collection at the store you selected during the order process. The device will need to be brought into the ICT team at the college, sealed and unopened, to be configured for the year. You must make a booking with ICT Services in January 2019 to have the device configured.

Devices from other retailers / re-using devices

If you choose to purchase a device from elsewhere, or use a device you already own, you must make a booking with ICT Services in January 2019 to have the device configured. For all Apple iPads being repurposed, please remove all passcodes and restrictions and ensure that the device is not activation locked, this may cause delays in its preparation for the school. Simply login into your iCloud account with the details you used to register the product and remove the device from your account.
