Music is a vital part of life at the college, where every student is encouraged to engage, explore and express themselves through sound.

Our approach enables students to explore their creativity, build confidence and experience the joy of making music both individually and as part of a group.

Music teaching is delivered by expert musicians and offered as a key part of the curriculum from Reception to Year 12.

Throughout the junior years (Reception to Year 6), music is taught as part of the compulsory Performing Arts program. It then becomes a compulsory stand-alone subject in Year 7. From Year 8 onwards, Music is offered as an elective.

Instrumental tuition offered at the college

Instrumental tuition is available during school hours through weekly lessons in either individual or small group formats.

Lessons are delivered by expert tutors in the following areas:

  • voice
  • flute
  • clarinet
  • saxophone
  • trumpet
  • trombone
  • violin
  • viola
  • cello
  • guitar
  • bass (electric and acoustic)
  • drums
  • percussion
  • piano
  • music theory

Should a student wish to learn an instrument that is not currently on offer, the college will seek to source a suitably qualified tutor on their behalf.

Applying for instrumental tuition

Families who would like their child (or children) to receive instrumental tuition are invited to lodge an application for instrument lessons at their earliest convenience. Applicants must already be enrolled at the college in order to submit an application.

Withdrawing from instrumental tuition

The college understands that sometimes circumstances change and that there are many reasons why students may need to stop their instrumental lessons. While the school encourages all students to commit to a full year of tuition (as our tutors are organised with this in mind), the college is here to support students if they need to withdraw from their tuition.

Families who need to discontinue their child's instrumental lessons are asked to do so in writing by submitting a notification of withdrawal from instrumental lessons and advising their tutor personally not less than 14 days in advance of the final lesson.

The college helps cover the cost of instrumental lessons for junior students through a subsidy program.

To be eligible for the program, students must commit to two years of instrumental tuition.

The program includes weekly lessons (small group or individual), a music instruction book and access to a loaned instrument.

The cost to families is $500 per year.

Available instruments include:

  • Year 3: violin, viola, cello
  • Year 4: violin, viola, cello, trumpet, trombone, flute, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon
  • Year 5: trumpet, trombone, flute, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon

This program helps students develop the basic skills necessary to participate in the college’s many music groups and enriches their overall educational journey through music.
