TORYO HIGH SCHOOL – JAPANESE SCHOOL VISIT
From August 5th to August 13th, 2011 Tatachilla College was very fortunate to host 13 students and 2 teachers from Toryo High School in the southern city of Kumamoto, Japan. This was Toryo High School’s first ever visit to Tatachilla and for many of the group also their first trip outside of Japan. We had certainly been looking forward to their arrival.
During their week stay with us here at Tatachilla, Toryo students learnt about many different aspects of Australian culture and lifestyle through daily English classes. The Japanese students also had the opportunity to regularly mix with Tatachilla students through a variety of other classes, and an organised trip to Cleland Wildlife Park also gave the Japanese students the chance to see some of Australia’s famous native animals. On their last day a special delicious “Australian lunch” was put on for the group by Tatachilla Food Technology students.
Many thanks must go to all the Tatachilla students and families who were involved in the homestay of these students. Despite being here for only a short time, it was clearly evident that they had a wonderful time with us here at Tatachilla and many special friendships were established in this time. A special thanks must also go to Jo Purling for her wonderful organisation of the group whilst here. We look forward to seeing Toryo High School again when we travel to Japan on our Japan Trip next year.
